Komodo National Park is a national park in Indonesia within the Lesser Sunda Islands, spanning the border region between the provinces of East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara, established in 1980. It was originally created to protect the Komodo dragon, the world's largest living lizard species, found nowhere else on Earth, and its protection has since broadened to cover the park's marine environment as well, including some of the richest coral reef ecosystems in the Coral Triangle. It is administered by Indonesia's Ministry of Environment and Forestry and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.
