Kruger National Park is a national park in South Africa covering roughly 19,623 square kilometres in the provinces of Limpopo and Mpumalanga in the country's northeast, formally proclaimed on May 31, 1926, from two earlier game reserves established at the turn of the twentieth century. It is one of the largest game reserves in Africa and hosts all of the traditional Big Five game species, alongside more than 500 bird species, and it is managed by South African National Parks. Kruger anchors the wider Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, which links its ecosystem across the borders of South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
