Madhav National Park lies in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, India, about 9 kilometers from Shivpuri city, and traces back to 1956 as Shivpuri National Park before taking its present name in a reorganization completed by 1959; it now covers about 354 square kilometers of forested hills and grassland in the Khathiar Gir dry deciduous ecoregion. The park was once a royal hunting ground dating to the sixteenth century and holds the Sakhya Sagar reservoir, a Ramsar wetland since 2022, and Madhav Sagar lake alongside George Castle, built in 1911 for King George V; wild tigers were last seen here in the late 1970s, and as of December 2024 the park was proposed as the fifty eighth tiger reserve in India.
