Malka Mari National Park sits in Mandera County in northeastern Kenya along the Dawa River on the border with Ethiopia, designated an IUCN Category II national park in 1989 and covering about 1,500 square kilometers of semi-arid bushland and scrubby grassland with riparian woodland along the river. Reachable through Mandera Airport, it is among the least visited national parks in Kenya, and its wildlife includes Somali giraffe, crocodile, hyena, antelope, dik-dik, zebra and, in a notable discovery, the first confirmed East African population of Hamadryas baboons.
