Meru National Park

Meru National Park lies east of the town of Meru in Kenya's Eastern Province, about 350 kilometers from Nairobi, established in 1966 and covering about 870.44 square kilometers. Rainfall varies sharply across the park, from 635 to 762 millimeters a year in the west to as little as 305 to 356 millimeters in the east, producing tall grass and lush swamps that support African bush elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, eastern black rhinoceros, southern white rhinoceros, Grevy's zebra and hippopotamus. It is one of the places where conservationists George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the lioness, the subject of Born Free, and her grave remains in the park.
