Mols Bjerge National Park

Mols Bjerge National Park is the second national park in Denmark, covering about 180 square kilometers in the Mols Hills of Syddjurs Municipality in central Jutland, near the town of Ebeltoft. It was announced by the environment minister in January 2008 and formally inaugurated by Queen Margrethe II in August 2009, and it is classified as an IUCN Category II protected area. Its rolling terrain rises to 137 meters at its highest point and takes in woodland, grassland, bog, meadow and coastal habitat, including more than half of all wild plant species found in Denmark. The park also holds the ruins of the fourteenth century Kalø Castle, an eighteenth century manor and Bronze Age burial mounds. About a third of the park is farmed and roughly four fifths of the hill area remains in private ownership, and it is administered by the Danish Nature Agency.
