Mount Aspiring National Park lies in the Otago and Westland regions of New Zealand's South Island, north of Fiordland National Park, and was established in 1964. Covering about 3,562 square kilometers of the Southern Alps, it contains more than 100 glaciers and U-shaped valleys carved during the Otira Ice Age roughly 16,000 to 18,000 years ago. Its namesake peak, Mount Aspiring or Tititea, rises to 3,033 meters, and the park forms part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Site. It is popular for tramping and mountaineering, with the Haast Pass forming one of the main routes across the Southern Alps.
