Nordre Isfjorden National Park lies on Spitsbergen island in the Svalbard archipelago, Norway, established in 2003 and covering about 2,954 square kilometers around Isfjorden, one of Svalbard's largest fjords, north of Barentsburg. Its virgin coastal landscape depends on seasonal inflows of warm, saline water that drive plankton growth supporting crustaceans and fish such as capelin and polar cod, in turn drawing marine birds and mammals to the area; it is managed under IUCN Category II by the Norwegian Directorate for Nature Management.
