Nordvest-Spitsbergen National Park covers northwestern Spitsbergen in Norway's Svalbard archipelago, including Albert I Land, Haakon VII Land and nearby islands such as Danskoya and Moffen, established by royal resolution on June 1, 1973 and covering about 9,914 square kilometers. It holds warm springs and volcanic remains in Bockfjorden, including the Troll and Jotun hot springs, the northernmost documented terrestrial hot springs on Earth at nearly 80 degrees north, along with seabird colonies, Svalbard reindeer, Arctic foxes, polar bear denning areas and walruses, plus remnants of 17th-century whaling stations and the 1897 launch site of S. A. Andree's failed North Pole balloon expedition at Virgohamna on Danskoya.
