Polesie National Park lies in Lublin Voivodeship in eastern Poland, within the historical region of Polesia. Created in 1990 at 48.13 square kilometers and since expanded to 97.62 square kilometers, the park protects a flat landscape of numerous lakes and peat bogs that sits on the boundary between boreal and Atlantic plant regions, giving it an unusually mixed flora. It supports a wide range of wildlife, including about 150 bird species, 35 mammal species such as otters, moose and beavers, and 21 fish species, and its wetlands are recognized as a UNESCO biosphere reserve and a Ramsar site.
