Pyhä-Luosto National Park protects Finland southernmost fell chain, in the Lapland region, formed in 2005 by merging Pyhätunturi, Finland oldest national park established in 1938, with the neighboring Luosto area. The IUCN Category II park covers about 142 square kilometers and is valued chiefly for its geological features, old growth forests, and wetlands, including twelve prominent fell peaks that are remnants of rock formations roughly two billion years old, the highest being Noitatunturi at 540 meters. It attracted nearly 199,000 visitors in 2024, making it Finland fifth most visited national park in 2023.
