Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site, in Union County, South Carolina near Whitmire, preserves the Greek Revival mansion built in 1832 that was home to William H. Gist, the sixty eighth governor of South Carolina, who helped instigate the state Secession Convention of 1860. The South Carolina State Park Service has managed the roughly 44 acre site as a historic house museum since acquiring it in 1960, interpreting Gist role in the events leading to the Civil War.
