Serra da Capivara National Park is a national park in the Piaui state of northeastern Brazil, covering 1,291.4 square kilometers. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991 for its extraordinary archaeological and artistic heritage, holding the largest and oldest known concentration of prehistoric sites in the Americas. The park contains numerous prehistoric rock paintings and rock shelters documenting a long history of human occupation, with archaeological evidence at sites such as Toca da Tira Peia suggesting habitation as far back as about 22,000 years ago.
