Slovak Karst National Park protects a complex of karst plains and plateaus in the Slovenske Rudohorie mountains of the Carpathians, in southern Slovakia. The area was first given protected status as a landscape area in 1973, and Slovak Karst National Park was formally declared on 1 March 2002. It is also designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and part of it forms the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the Caves of Aggtelek Karst and Slovak Karst, shared with Hungary.
