Stabbursdalen National Park lies mainly in Porsanger Municipality, with a small part in Hammerfest Municipality, in Finnmark county, Norway, near the Porsangerfjord, established on February 6, 1970 and covering about 747 square kilometers after a 2002 expansion from its original 98 square kilometers. Its defining feature is the northernmost pine forest in the world, sheltered pine and birch woodland that survived in the valley after retreating north as the climate cooled thousands of years ago, alongside barren mountains, open plateaus and the Stabburselva river with its waterfalls, rapids and pools.
