Talampaya National Park

Talampaya National Park is a national park in the east-central part of La Rioja Province, Argentina, first protected as a provincial reserve in 1975 before being elevated to national park status in 1997 and inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, jointly with the adjoining Ischigualasto Provincial Park, for its exceptional fossil record. The park's canyon, cut through red sandstone by the Talampaya River, exposes rock layers spanning the Triassic period and has yielded significant early dinosaur and other archosaur fossils that help document the origins of the dinosaurs.
