Tayrona National Park

Tayrona National Natural Park, established in 1964 about 34 kilometers from Santa Marta in Colombia's Magdalena department, protects roughly 150 square kilometers along the Caribbean coast within the jurisdiction of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, including about 30 square kilometers of sea and 120 square kilometers of land ranging from sea level to 900 meters in elevation. The park supports about 108 mammal species and 300 bird species, including the endangered cotton-top tamarin, found nowhere else in the world, and its surrounding waters hold 700 mollusk species, 471 crustacean species and 110 coral species. It is one of Colombia's most visited protected areas, drawing more than 545,000 visitors in 2022, and experiences a hot tropical climate with seasonal rainfall.
