Yoho National Park lies in southeastern British Columbia, Canada, along the western slope of the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains. Established on October 10, 1886, it covers about 1,313 square kilometers of ice fields and mountain peaks that rank among the highest in the Canadian Rockies, and forms part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site designated in 1984. Yoho gained particular scientific importance in 1909 with the discovery of the Burgess Shale fossil deposit, a find that reshaped understanding of the early evolution of multicellular life.
