Banat is a geographical and historical region located in the Pannonian, or Carpathian, Basin that straddles Central and Eastern Europe. It is divided among three countries: its eastern part lies in western Romania, its western part lies in northeastern Serbia, and a small northern part lies within southeastern Hungary.
