South Sumatra is a province in the southeastern part of the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, whose capital and largest city, Palembang, sits on territory once governed by the Palembang Sultanate. It borders the provinces of Jambi, Bengkulu and Lampung and has a maritime border with the Bangka Belitung Islands, and is the largest province on Sumatra by area.
