Tibet, officially the Tibet Autonomous Region, is an autonomous region of China occupying most of the Tibetan Plateau, the highest region on Earth, administered by China since its incorporation in the 1950s; a Tibetan government in exile based in Dharamsala, India, continues to dispute Chinese rule, a dispute this description records as fact without asserting either side's claim as settled. Its capital is Lhasa.
