The island arc between North and South America: Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, Dominica, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago, sharing a tropical maritime climate and a history bound up with the surrounding sea rather than either mainland. Distinct from the Central American isthmus and the South American mainland it lies between.
