The southern continent: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela, framed by the Andes along its western edge, the Amazon basin across its tropical north, and the temperate southern cone at Argentina and Chile's far end. Joined to Central America only at the narrow Panama isthmus, which belongs to the subregion to its north.
