Guyana is a country on the northern coast of South America, part of the Guianas region, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Suriname, Brazil and Venezuela. It gained independence from the United Kingdom on 26 May 1966. It is a unitary parliamentary republic. Its capital is Georgetown.
