Bouar is a market town in western Central African Republic and the capital of Nana-Mambere prefecture, with a city population of 40,353 and a wider sous-prefecture population of 96,595. Situated on a plateau nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, it lies on the main road between Bangui and the Cameroonian frontier and is known as the site of Camp Leclerc, a French military base.
