Karasburg is a town in the Karas region of southern Namibia, serving as the district capital of the Karasburg East constituency, about 710 kilometers south of Windhoek and 862 kilometers north of Cape Town. It is the only town south of Keetmanshoop in Namibia. The 2023 census recorded 6,621 residents, up from 4,401 in 2011, and the town's main industry is sheep farming, supplemented by its role as an important truck stop for vehicles crossing from the South African border. The Karasburg railway station was once the busiest train station in southern Namibia, and the district experiences a harsh climate, with summer temperatures rising well over 40 degrees Celsius against sub-zero winter nights and minimal annual rainfall of about 128 millimeters.
