Ras Lanuf is a Mediterranean town in northern Libya on the Gulf of Sidra in Tripolitania, part of the historic Greek Pentapolis region in classical antiquity. The town is a major oil industry hub, home to the Ras Lanuf Refinery completed in 1984 with a crude oil refining capacity of 220,000 barrels per day, alongside a petrochemical complex, a major oil terminal and three oil pipelines. A 1984 urban development program for the town was planned for 40,000 inhabitants.
