Bahrain is an island country in the Persian Gulf comprising an archipelago of thirty-three natural islands and about fifty artificial islands centered on Bahrain Island, situated between Qatar and Saudi Arabia and linked to the Saudi mainland by the King Fahd Causeway. It gained independence from the United Kingdom on 14 August 1971. It is a unitary constitutional monarchy. Its capital is Manama.
