The Middle East and North Africa, commonly abbreviated MENA, is a transregional grouping used by international organizations such as the World Bank and United Nations agencies to combine the Middle East with the countries of North Africa's Maghreb and Nile Valley into a single area of shared language, religion and economic analysis. Spanning parts of both Asia and Africa, the grouping is defined by predominant Arabic language and Islamic faith rather than by physical geography alone, and its exact membership varies slightly between the institutions that use it.
