Rwanda, officially the Republic of Rwanda, is a landlocked country in East Africa. Its geography is dominated by mountains in the west and savanna in the southeast. Rwanda was separated from Burundi and gained independence from Belgium on 1 July 1962. Its capital is Kigali.
