Kaziranga National Park is a national park in Assam, northeastern India, along the floodplain of the Brahmaputra River, first given protection as a reserve forest in 1905 and later established as a national park in 1974. The park protects the world's largest population of the greater one-horned rhinoceros, along with significant populations of tiger, elephant and wild water buffalo, across tall elephant grass, marshland and dense forest shaped by the Brahmaputra's annual floods. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985 in recognition of its exceptional wildlife populations.
