Nubia is the historical region along the Nile River spanning southern Egypt and northern Sudan, home to one of Africa's oldest civilizations and a series of powerful kingdoms, including Kush, that rivaled and at times ruled ancient Egypt. Known for its own tradition of pyramid-building, distinct from and more numerous than Egypt's, Nubia's monuments and archaeological sites stretch along the Nile from Aswan to south of Khartoum.
