The Maghreb is the region of western and central North Africa comprising Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia, together with the disputed territory of Western Sahara, distinct from the wider term North Africa that also includes Egypt. Also called Northwest Africa or Greater Maghreb, the region shares an Arab and Berber cultural heritage and a coastline stretching from the Atlantic to the central Mediterranean.
