Kaduna is a state in the northwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria, whose capital is the city of Kaduna, itself the country's eighth largest city as of 2006. Created in 1967 as North-Central State, which then also included territory that later became Katsina State, Kaduna reached its present borders in 1987 and is Nigeria's fourth largest state by area and third most populous, nicknamed the Centre of Learning for its concentration of universities and military training institutions.
