Rhode Island is a state in the New England region of the Northeastern United States, bordering Connecticut to its west, Massachusetts to its north and east, and the Atlantic Ocean to its south, and is the smallest U.S. state by area. Admitted to the Union in 1790 as the 13th state, its capital is Providence.
