Lesotho is a landlocked country in Southern Africa entirely surrounded by South Africa, situated in the Maloti Mountains and the only sovereign state in the world that lies entirely above 1,000 meters in elevation. It gained independence from the United Kingdom on 4 October 1966. It is a unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy. Its capital is Maseru.
