Paraguay, officially the Republic of Paraguay, is a landlocked country in central South America bordered by Bolivia, Brazil and Argentina. It declared independence from Spain on 14 May 1811. Its capital, Asuncion, was founded in 1537 as the first capital of the Governorate of the Rio de la Plata.
