Maine is a state in the New England region of the United States and the northeasternmost state in the contiguous United States, bordering New Hampshire to the west, the Gulf of Maine to the southeast and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Quebec to the northeast and northwest. Admitted to the Union in 1820 as the 23rd state, its capital is Augusta.
