Michigan is a peninsular state in the Great Lakes region of the Upper Midwest, split between its Lower and Upper Peninsulas and bordered by four of the five Great Lakes. Admitted to the Union in 1837 as the 26th state, its capital is Lansing and its largest city is Detroit.
