Maryland is a state in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeastern regions of the United States, bordering Virginia to its south, West Virginia to its west, Pennsylvania to its north and Delaware to its east. Admitted to the Union in 1788 as the 7th state, its capital is Annapolis.
