Georgia is a country in the Caucasus region on the east coast of the Black Sea, at the intersection of Eastern Europe and West Asia and generally regarded as part of Europe, bordered by Russia to the north and northeast, Turkey and Armenia to the south, and Azerbaijan to the southeast. It declared independence from the Soviet Union on 9 April 1991. It is a unitary parliamentary republic. Its capital is Tbilisi.
