Norway comprises the western and northernmost parts of the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe, plus remote Arctic islands, sharing a long eastern border with Sweden and bordered by Finland and Russia to the northeast. Its constitution was adopted in 1814, and it became fully sovereign on the peaceful dissolution of its union with Sweden in 1905. It is a unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy. Its capital is Oslo.

Norway's modern constitution was adopted on 17 May 1814 on separation from Denmark; full sovereignty followed the peaceful dissolution of its union with Sweden on 7 June 1905. The kingdom itself traces to the unification of Norway around 872.
