Heves is a small town in eastern Hungary, about 100 kilometers east of Budapest, lying at the northern edge of the Great Hungarian Plain just south of the Mátra and Bükk hills and west of the Tisza River. The town gave its name to Heves County but is only the county fourth largest municipality, with the regional center of Eger about 40 kilometers to the north.
