Bremen is the capital of the German state of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, a two-city state made up of Bremen and the port of Bremerhaven. A member of the medieval Hanseatic League and still a major inland port on the Weser river, Bremen is known for its well-preserved market square, its town hall and Roland statue recognized by UNESCO, and the folk tale of the Bremen Town Musicians.
