Pakistan is a country in South Asia. It is bounded by the Arabian Sea to the south, the Gulf of Oman to the southwest, and the Sir Creek to the southeast, and shares land borders with India to the east, Afghanistan to the west, Iran to the southwest, and China to the northeast. Pakistan gained independence in 1947 after the partition of British India. Its capital is Islamabad.
